Everything you need to know about the move from analogue to digital landlines.
Read the guideNumber porting
Keep your number when you switch. It’s free for homes and businesses.
How porting worksWhat do you sell?
Two things, for homes and businesses: full fibre (FTTP) broadband and digital phone (VoIP). For businesses, digital phone includes hosted cloud phone systems and SIP trunks.
Can I keep my phone number?
In most cases, yes, and number porting is free for homes and businesses. Tell us your number and current provider and we’ll arrange the move and agree a switch date with you.
What is the digital switchover?
The UK’s old analogue phone network (the PSTN) is being retired and landline calls are moving to digital lines that run over broadband. Read our Digital Switchover guide for more.
Do I need to get my broadband from you?
No. Our digital phone can be bought on its own and works over any provider’s broadband, for homes and businesses. You can also bundle it with our full fibre if you’d like everything in one place.
I don’t have home internet. Can I keep my landline number?
Yes. You can port your landline number to the Your Communications VoIP app, free, and make and receive landline calls on your smartphone over mobile data or Wi-Fi.
Will my existing phone work?
Many corded and cordless phones work with a digital line by plugging into your router’s phone port. If yours doesn’t, we’ll advise on alternatives.
What happens in a power cut?
Digital phones need power. If you rely on your landline, for example because you have no mobile signal or use a telecare device, please tell us so we can make sure you can still reach emergency services during a power cut.
I have an alarm, telecare device or card machine on my line. What should I do?
Check with the company that supplies or monitors the device whether it works over a digital line, and tell us about it when you switch so we can plan around it.
What is full fibre?
Full fibre, or FTTP (fibre to the premises), runs fibre optic cable all the way to your home or business rather than switching to copper at a street cabinet.
